Turn of Events at Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls. The Regional director, Jared Obiero on Monday, April 3, announced that Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High school in Kakamega had been closed indefinitely due to suspected case of food and water poisoning at the school following the death of two students. The school was closed over the fears that more students and teachers might be affected. This is after, over 100 students from the school were admitted to the hospital on March 28 with fever and diarrheic symptoms.

In less than two weeks after the closure of the school, two more people have died including a senior teacher in the school who passed away yesterday. Julian Mujema, a senior teacher at Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls, passed away due to multiple organ failures while receiving treatment at Lifecare Specialty Hospital in Eldoret. Julian passed on yesterday April 13 at 6:00 p.m. while under the intensive care unit (ICU). Initially the deceased was admitted at the Oasis Hospital in Kakamega, however she was transferred to Lifecare later on after her condition worsened. Read Also Advertisement

The family of the late English and Literature teacher, Julian reported that she suffered from symptoms similar to the three students from the school who died less than a week ago.

“Am completely crestfallen with these preventable deaths taking place at Mukumu Girls due to consumption of inhygienic food and water. Ms. Julian Mujemu, the in charge of boarding is the latest to succumb. RIP our gallant teacher,” the senator twitted.
