The suspect, identified as Martin Otieno, was apprehended during a coordinated operation led by the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer in conjunction with officers from DCI Lang’ata and DCI Dagoretti.

The arrest comes after an alarming rise in robbery incidents on the Southern Bypass, with perpetrators deploying tactics such as road obstructions to ambush unsuspecting drivers. On January 4, 2025, patrolling officers were drawn to a scene by a loud crash and discovered a Volkswagen vehicle, registration number KYW 690, that had collided with a large stone strategically placed on the road.

Inside the car was a family heading toward Ngong Road, who narrated the chilling events. Moments after hitting the obstacle, Otieno emerged from a nearby thicket and confronted the family, demanding valuables in a brazen robbery attempt.
