Babu Owino Has Case To Answer – Dpp. Yesterday, a court in Nairobi determined that Babu Owino, the MP for Embakasi East, must face charges related to the improper use of a firearm.
Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi has ruled that the MP must now defend himself in court for his disorderly conduct while being in possession of a firearm. The accusation against the MP is that he deliberately fired a single bullet with the intention of shooting DJ Evolve (real name Felix Orinda) at B Club in Kilimani on January 17th, 2020.
Ochoi ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence, including CCTV footage, to establish a prima facie case against the defendant. As a result, the defendant was ordered to present his defense on June 15th.
The MP was facing charges of firearm misuse in a public place, and the prosecution had presented more than 10 witnesses to support their case.
The DPP pressed the court to hold the MP accountable for misusing a gun while patronizing B Club on Galana road in Nairobi on January 17, 2020, given that the defendant is a lawmaker and gun owner.
The prosecution presented to the court that the State witness’s testimony strongly supported the CCTV footage evidence in their submissions.
Despite Owino’s lawyers, Cliff Ombeta and Duncan Okatch, arguing for his acquittal, claiming that the government failed to prove the alleged crime beyond reasonable doubt, the MP’s fate now rests in the hands of the court.
